Pivotal Update:
Hey Pivotal Fans,
In this issue, I wanted to talk about nutrition a bit more. The older we get the more we realize that is “ain’t just about moving”. If we are to reduce inflammation, chronic illness and excess weight we must address what we eat. I know you must be tired of hearing that! I know I am 🙁 However, hearing and listening are two different things…
So, with this in mind I am launching a Weight & Health Wellness Series, beginning in September. It will take place once a month to start, with the potential of twice a week if we need a bit more structure. This class is a “hub” of information, motivation, time to plan, think, discuss, exchange recipes and commit ourselves to something we all know we need to do.
Eating well is no joke. It is just as hard to quit smoking. It is tough to walk away from foods that we all know don’t work for us. You know what they say…”it takes a village”. We’ll were creating one!!
Each month we’ll discuss relevant topics, account for our month, recharge and arm ourselves for the coming month with tasty recipes, knowledge and commitment.
This is about health more than weight but hopefully we all lose a few 🙂 No judgement, no psychological probing, just support, information, community and inspiration. We could all use it!
I’ll be sending an individual email with the details, times and what to bring. I am so excited to create this structure of support for you.
Please call if you want more information. 732-256-3898

Pivotal Update:
In this issue I’m so excited to mention a little secret we’ve had to keep.
I’m happy to announce our brand new 850 sq ft. expansion dedicated to excellent and accessible floor classes including; barre, yoga and Pilates mat variations! Yay!
What is exciting is that in addition to our amazing line up of Pilates apparatus classes, our clients can take advantage of building a solid foundational floor experience of moving through many modalities incorporating stamina, flexibility, strength, agility and mobility as they cross train with us.
Our classes will include a beginner, intermediate and advanced track across all disciplines, giving our clients a pathway toward their health and fitness goals while switching it up every week or even daily. We know that many of you like to do “back to back” classes. We never get bored here 🙂
On another note: Our Platinum Pilates series is taking off nicely, giving us opportunity to help our senior populations age more gracefully and get stronger, not weaker as they age. We are so proud of our senior clients! We’ll continue to offer our Platinum clients a discount on all packages and classes.
Stay tuned as I begin to announce our incredible line up of classes, events and of course OUR GRAND EXPANSION OPENING this FALL.
Always and forever I appreciate your patronage and support!

Update from the Owner:

This month we launched our Platinum Pilates Series for the 65+ population. What a great response we’ve had.

Working with older clients is
so rewarding and Pilates couldn’t be a more perfect match. The machines offer a safe, easy flow with support when needed. Clients enjoy the diversity and ease with which they can move and they love it! Our specialized classes create length, and a calming homeostasis in the body.

Pivotal PIlates has become a “Specialty” fitness and wellness space. A place where people who normally shy away from gyms, or mindless group classes, enjoy the education, focus and attention they get from our instructors and small group classes.

Take a look at our new Weight Wellness section below for monthly ideas and interesting facts about how you can implement health on a daily basis.

Thank you for participating with me in what ever way that you do.

In this issue….
Joint Preservation

We’ve kicked off our Platinum Pilates series and the feedback is in. It’s a hit! Come try a platinum class with us and enjoy the benefits of Pilates in a safe and motivating environment.

Exercise of the month
Bird Dog

This is such an effective pose. When cueing a client I like to cue all foundations in this pose. Shoulder stability, neck and ribcage placement, neutral pelvis and of course breath work helps to engage the TVA and mulitifidy (lower back muscles) A wonderful exercise for the posterior chain.

Pivotal Platinum Joint Preservation Fitness

The body changes as we age. We need to change our recipe for fitness with it.

Pilates and the 65+ Population

It’s funny how clients migrate toward people their own age or instructors seem to attract them. I use to focus on the fit and 40, and before that the pre/postnatal client and now, ta da! While I’m not quite 60 my curiosity and maturity has taken my practice toward joint preservation, vertebral length and postural strength. I experienced great health and vitality through exercise most of my life and the more I read about the over 60 population the more I realize they might need it more than any previous decades before.

After 60 our bones become less dense and weaker. They are likely to break more easily due to loss off calcium. Some changes we see are the spine shortening due to the vertebral bodies dehydrating and the fluid becoming thinner and less dense. Tendons and ligaments become less elastic making our muscles and bones feel tighter, with less give. Cartilage that line the joints tends to thin partly due to wear and tear, making us more susceptible to injury.

My intention is not to paint an picture of horror, but human reality which we all face. There is no getting around the aging body. However, we can hep ourselves age more gracefully, prevent injuries and continue to move with more ease and comfort as we age. We all face a body that no longer does what it use to do but let’s keep working the system and get the most out of what we have.

Aging is a serious business. Those of us who want to keep our bodies hydrated, moving, flexible, stable and prevent falling by developing balance and strength benefit greatly by taking Pilates. Consider this article below comparing Pilates and other forms of fitness and the effects on balance, flexibility and strength.
